Triumph Street Triple R, the better version

Triumph Street Triple R

When you’re not satisfied with what a motorcycle company is selling to you, but you’re such a big fan and cannot head in the opposite direction, you start taking things into your own hands and out of your pockets. This is exactly what Tony Hartfield did when noticing that the Triumph Street Triple R isn’t quite the performance machine he was expecting when he bought it. So he then headed towards a new 2009 Triumph Daytona 675 (Street Triple R’s original source of inspiration) and built his own idea of a high-performance naked.

Tony retained the 126bhp Daytona 675 motor, which has around 20hp more than the Street Triple, but modified the Daytona chassis in order to fit it with Speed Triple handlebars as well as with Street Triple indicators and headlights. Other upgrades include Giles rear sets, Pazzo levers and Galfer wavey discs front and rear.

Having completed the project, Tony told MCN: "I reckon what I have is what the Triple R should have been." And he may very well be right.

Victory Vegas Limited Edition

Victory Vegas Limited Edition

At a first glance, this motorcycle appears to be no more than a 2010 Victory Vegas available in Fire Ball Red, Competition Yellow, Pearl White or Turbo Silver and featuring a side-mounted 106 race plate graphic, color-matched frame and swingarm and blacked-out forks and drivetrain, but it is in fact Victory’s new Vegas Limited Edition model, which they also happen to claim being their “quickest motorcycle ever produced”.

The technical solution making that claim possible consists in Stage 2 cams being fitted to the 106-cubic inch V-twin motor now developing 97 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque.

Victory only plans to produce 100 of these bikes in 2010 and they will come with a $15,999 price tag. Orders are being taken until February 15, so if you want one, then you better hurry up. Click past the break for the official press release.

Go behind the scenes of Travis Pastrana’s New Year’s Eve jump

Travis Pastrana training

As you may already know, Travis Pastrana – the kind of guy that backflips a shoe bike, jumps his motorcycle over a hovering helicopter, backflips from one building to another etc for a living - has actually pulled off his latest stunt behind the wheel of his Subaru WRX STI rally car on new year’s eve. The stunt consisted in the daredevil jumping off a ramp mounted on a boat and onto a barge-mounted landing ramp. In between those: over 250 feet of water.

What you most likely don’t know is the extensive training required to pull off such a stunt and we’ve come to find that Pastrana practiced with both a car and motorcycle for this specific world-record-setting jump and even crashed the racing Subaru car after misjudging the speed required to land smoothly over the hump of the…whatever, just watch the behind-the-scenes video that Red Bull recently made public.

World’s First Motorcycle Air Conditioner to hit production thanks to EntroSys

I believe we can finally say the first air conditioner for motorcycles (one that will actually end up being produced) was invented. The company behind the inventive idea is EntroSys, which’s motorcycle air conditioner offers almost the same thermic comfort as when traveling in a car, meaning that it can cool/heat the rider’s body depending on the climate.

The company plans to take this into full production and has released a video showing how easily their system can be used, we reckon on most kinds of motorcycles. Watch it and, if you have experienced heat and/or cold while riding motorcycles, you’ll be hooked.

2010 Honda Interstate

The 2010 Honda Interstate is Big Red’s latest touring motorcycle, which is part of the five additional new models among the Sabre and Stateline, just to mention the ones in the same family. So we’re talking about a whole new line here that Honda likes to call the 1300 Custom line and which is based on a big V-twin engine with Honda’s Programmed Fuel Injection, but you’ll find that the Interstate is the only one to feature stylish leather-wrapped hard bags, traditional windscreen and floorboards. These features turn it into a real long haul companion, so hit the jump and find out more if that’s what you’re looking for.

2010 Honda Stateline/Stateline ABS

Honda’s continuously expanding line of cruisers now features a rather interesting model called the Stateline. Although part of the 1300 Custom segment, this bike displays deeply valanced fenders that indicate Honda’s loyalty to the classic retro style, while the 1312cc, fuel-injected V-twin engine is all about offering loads of torque and decent horsepower, which is precisely what bikers demand from bikes in this category. Honda Unicorn Sports Concept makes bikers look funky

Honda Unicorn Sports Concept

Very often, those who plan to start riding can already imagine themselves dressed in bad boy leathers and so on, but you really need an appropriate bike to fulfill that dream and a bell should ring when hearing about the Unicorn concept that Honda has recently unveiled at the Auto Expo 2010 in India.

Although we would imagine something…different when reading the fancy name, the Honda Unicorn Sports Concept is anything but disappointing for the average rider in India. This should be thrilled by the 150cc engine, exciting new front cowl, stunning rear tail lamp, attractive tank shrouds, rear disc brake, spilit grab rail and dual tone styling, which are just few of the exciting features. These will most likely be found on the production version as well.

Hmm, so I guess we can say the 2010 Honda Unicorn will be a rider’s shortest trip from bad boy to funky.

Antarctic Snow Chopper by Junk Parts

Antarctic Snow Chopper

There’s a unique story behind every chopper project in general, but we tend to like the one behind the Antarctic Snow Chopper in particularly because it evokes energy, innovation and a lot of work. Built by Bob Sawicki and Toby Weisser, who work in Antarctica maintaining snowmobiles for the U.S. logistics hub and are very passionate about mechanical and fabricating work, this chopper is actually put together from the junk and discards found at the station. For instance, the engine and track are from a totaled 1981 Ski Doo, it has two fire extinguishers as fuel and compressed air tanks and it also features bent pipe and a crowbar as must-have chassis parts.

Because the two builders had everything there to work for, they only needed to invest as little as $10 in parts and 120 work hours to complete the amazing chopper and take it for a test ride. Having done that, they list a top speed of 30 to 35 mph (on the snow).

The Antarctic Snow Chopper is so eye-catching and interesting that it made it in the February 2010 issue of Popular Science and it truly deserves it.

2010 Suzuki Boulevard C50

In 2010, Suzuki carries on producing their big boy models without any changes apart from the ones involving color schemes and the C50 series is no exception to the rule. Not heavily refined, but enough to make a difference are the base model, the C50T and the Special Edition one, all with something special to offer.
